MADRID - Rafal Nadal will no longer have to worry about facing long-time rival Roger Federer in the Beijing Olympic tennis tournament. While the Spaniard cruised to his first career Olympic semi-final berth yesterday, beating Austria's Jurgen Melzer 6-0, 6-4, Federer fell to the American James Blake 6-4, 7-6.

The loss adds to what has been a difficult year for the Swiss. He suffered his first loss at Wimbledon in six years, and next week will formally surrender the ATP top-ranking to Nadal.

Nadal, Spain's last remaining player in the tournament will now face Serbia's world number three, Novak Djokovic, who beat France's Gael Monfils Thursday.
