Mozambican boat accident kills schoolgirls, nun
Six Mozambican Catholic schoolgirls, a Spanish nun and her friend died when their boat capsized off the southern African coast on Sunday, local media reported.
Mozambique's public television said an overloaded barge ferrying people from Maputo to Ilha de Moçambique (Island of Mozambique), in the northen Nampula province, capsized in rough seas.
"A girl is missing and six people injured in the wreck are in hospital but out of danger," island administrator, Antonio Saul said.
The bodies of the two Spanish women are in the capital of Nampula pending arrangements for a Spanish translator for family members.
All the girls who died had lived on the island and attended the Franciscan school run by Catholic nuns.
Last year, fifteen people drowned when a boat travelling from Malawi to Mozambique sank in Lake Niassa.
