VALENCIA (EFE) – A mother who lives in the Spanish province of Valencia still had no news on Wednesday about the kidnapping of her two children in Venezuela.
Twelve-year-old Alberto Luis Parra Barreto and 10-year-old Jose David were kidnapped on Sunday while they were on holiday at their grandparents' and are due to celebrate their first communion there next Sunday.
The boys, who live in Torrent in eastern Spain with their mother, were taken along with their uncle Mariano Barreto, 35, and their 10-year-old cousin David during a day trip close to the restive border between Venezuela and Colombia.
The mother's family told EFE that since the boys' parents separated the boys regularly go to visit their father's family in Venezuela.
They said 300 police officers and soldiers were looking for the family but no organisation had yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Several recent kidnappings have been blamed on the Colombian guerrilla group the National Liberation Army (ELN).
The children and their uncle were taken near an activity and water park near El Pregonero.
The boys' mother is Lisbey Barreto, a plastic surgeon in Torrent.
"My sister-in-law, Lisbey, is destroyed… and can hardly talk", said Jose Arenas
The boys' grandmother appealed for their return on Venezuelan TV. "Give them back to me. They have their first communion on Sunday," she said.
