MARBELLA — The controversial mayor of Marbella is to have her house seized after a judge ruled she had failed to pay EUR 950,000 in building works.

Marisol Yague said she was "calm" after the ruling but insisted there was no proof the works were worth that much.

Copasur, which sought a court order to seize her property, handed the court in Marbella a recording of a conversation in which Marbella's public works chief, Vincente Manciles, is alleged to have said Yague was planning to pay for part of the building work with public money.

Allegedly, the mayor said she would pretend the money was being used for public works.

Meanwhile, Yague was faced with claims that the city council was paying 20 city officials EUR 1.62 million a year in wages.

The claims were presented by the Andalusian Party.
