VALENCIA - A young man was killed in a gas explosion in a small town near Valencia, police said.
The 24-year-old died from injuries sustained in the explosion which happened early on Monday morning in Torrent, near Valencia in eastern Spain.
The blast happened in the top flat of a block of apartments.
Police said there were no other injuries.
Authorities said it was thought a gas cylinder had caused the explosion or even a build-up of gas in the flat.
Firefighters quickly put out the flames in the flat, which was badly damaged.
It is the latest tragedy in Spain related to gas leaks or explosions.
Last month, eighteen people attending a birthday party were killed when a gas powered fire used for animals outside was taken inside and killed sleeping partygoers.
