MADRID — Though their parties can agree on nothing, two deputies in the Spanish parliament have proved that love conquers all.
Jose Maria Lassalle Ruiz, of the opposition Popular Party(PP), is to marry Meritxell Batet of the Catalan Socialist party (PSC), which is allied to the government
Lassalle is the young, moderate, good-looking PP deputy who often appears on the television discussion programme '59 Seconds' for his party.
Batet, from the Catalan Socialist party, is also said to be intelligent and highly rated by colleagues in her party.
Some political commentators have wondered if either might be put under pressure by their respective parties on certain issues which could drive a wedge between them.
But most say they are both moderates and not radicals so they are unlikely to be driven apart by political differences.
