VALENCIA — A man who killed his ex partner and two of their children by starting a fire at her home and blocking the only escape route was jailed on Monday for 64 years.
Ismael Pablo R.G. was convicted of murdering Jenny Lara and their two sons by pouring petrol through the letter box while they were sleeping.
The court heard he knew he was blocking the only way to escape from the house.
He was convicted despite the fact there were no witnesses to the triple murder at the town of Alzira near Valencia in April 2004.
The high court in Valencia found that there were "numerous" previous attacks on Jenny Lara.
Ismael Pablo had been banned from going near Lara since December 2003 by a court.
Lara was another victim of domestic violence in a country which last year saw a 13 percent rise in murders at the hands of ex-husbands or ex-boyfriends. Sixty-nine women were killed in all in 2006.
