OLVEGA - Levi Strauss & Co. will begin gradual closures Thursday of its two factories in Spain, moving production operations to Eastern Europe.

In June, the US-based clothing giant announced it would close operations in the central city of Olvega and Bonmati, in the northeast.

Employee representatives reached a deal with the firm in July regarding compensation pay and agreed closures would begin on 30 September.

The two factories, which employ more than 400 workers, are expected to be fully shut down by mid-November, according to company sources.
