PALMA — Spain's King Juan Carlos has sent a telegram to President George W Bush expressing his and the nation's condolences over the deaths caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Royal household officials told EFE that the message expressed condolences in the name of the king, the royal family and the Spanish people.

Hurricane Katrina, which slammed into the Gulf coast of the United States on Monday, killed dozens of people in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, and caused billions of dollars worth of damage.
