MONACO - King Juan Carlos of Spain joined royalty and leading politicians from across Europe at the funeral of Prince Rainier of Monaco.
The king offered his personal condolences to the prince's children prior to the ceremony in Monaco, but was not be accompanied by Queen Sofia, the royal household added.
Prince Rainier died on 6 April at the age of 81 in hospital.
Among the European royalty were Prince Andrew of Britain, King Albert II of Belgium, and Crown Prince Willem Alexander of Holland.
President Jacques Chirac, representing France, was the most senior politician at the ceremony.
Monaco was engulfed by media from around the world to cover the funeral of the long-serving monarch, who had made the principality glamorous partly through his marriage to the American actress Grace Kelly.
