MADRID - An elite police unit freed a teenager Tuesday who had been held hostage for three days.
Members of the Special Operations Group (GEO) freed the 18-year-old man who was from a prominent gypsy family.
He was kidnapped by a gang who kidnapped him on Sunday and held him in Alcalá de Henares, a town outside Madrid.
He had been held at gunpoint and his captors had demanded a ransom of EUR 1.5 million.
GEO officers arrested three men, who were said to be members of a gang who produced forged bank notes.
The kidnappers told the family of the teenager that they would first send the fingers of the boy in a box if the cash was not paid by a certain deadline.
But GEO officers discovered where he was being held Tuesday morning in a warehouse of the industrial area of Descubrimiento.
The victim was only named as Basilio N.M., who was kidnapped from his home in Madrid Sunday.
