MADRID - An Alicante company says it has designed and built a robot that can be used to search for the causes of outbreaks of legionnaire's disease.
The mysterious and sometimes mortal disease has becoming increasingly prevalent in recent years, with most of the cases diagnosed as being related to air-conditioning.
But the owner of Eventronic, Javier Asensi Pérez, has come up with an invention that is small enough to work inside the pipework and to take video and photos of the state of the systems, said a company spokesperson.
Operated from a computer, the robot can also be to suction up and collect samples of what it finds
"Asensi began the project after hearing all the continual news items about people affected by legionnaires' disease, which appear almost daily in the media, especially in summer," added the spokesman.
Called "Inspector Bot", the robot has already attracted the interest of several maintenance and cleaning companies
