MADRID -(AFP) - Spanish consumer prices rose 2.7 percent in September on an annual basis and 0.3 percent compared with the month before, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday.

In a statement, INE said underlying inflation, excluding food and energy products, was 2.6 percent in September from a year earlier.

Inflation had slowed in August to 2.2 percent on an annual basis, against 2.3 percent in July.

In spite of the increase in September, the economy ministry qualified the figure as "moderately positive" in a statement "given that the increase was similar to that registered in other countries of the eurozone."
