MALAGA — A man was arrested after holding his ex-wife and their two-year-old daughter hostage at knifepoint for two days.
The 22-year-old continually threatened to kill the infant and throw her her out of the window.
He repatedly beat his former wife and whipped her with a belt.
But she eventually managed to escape in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police from the specialised GEO unit broke into the house to free her daughter Lucia after negotiators lost contact with the man.
The child was in a good condition despite her ordeal.
It later emerged the man was the subject a court order banning him from having contact with his ex-wife.
He also had previous convictions for violence against women and for robbery with violence.
The woman suffered bruises but was otherwise uninjured.
The drama happened at a city in the centre of Malaga.
