MADRID - Labour Minister Jesús Caldera has announced the timetable for the government's Immigration Law reform, which will lead to the legalisation of unregistered immigrants currently working in Spain.

Between January 31 and April 31, employers will be able to apply for the legalisation of their workers, as long as the offer of work is ongoing - a six-month contract or three months in the case of agriculture - and the immigrant is inscribed on the local register of residents (padrón) before July 31, 2004.

The government expects around 800,000 foreign workers to gain residency permits.

Caldera said that the Cabinet will approve the plan on December 30.
