NEW YORK — Queen Sofia hosted an awards ceremony in New York to honour Julio Iglesias, Henry Kissinger and Beatrice Santo Domingo.

The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute's Gold Medal Gala recognizes those who have contributed to spreading Spanish culture in the United States.

Among the previous winners of the institute's gold medal were singer Placido Domingo, Spanish media mogul Jesus Polanco and former UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar.

The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute has been awarding its gold medal since 1978.
