MADRID – Iberia Airlines announced on Friday it is to begin twice-weekly flights to Saint Petersburg this summer and plans to boost its number of flights to Moscow, reflecting the increase in air traffic between Spain and Russia.

The outbound flights from Seville will depart on Tuesdays and Saturdays and the return flights from Saint Petersburg will leave on Wednesdays and Sundays, all with stopovers in Madrid.

The airline is offering a special round-trip fare of EUR 318 to launch the route, the company said. Tickets must be purchased by 30 April.

Iberia is to add five more weekly flights from Madrid to Moscow, which it currently serves with daily flights.

Over the past several years, Russian tourism has increased significantly to Spain where many Russians now have holiday homes.

Iberia is also opening new summer routes to the United States with flights five times a week to Boston beginning in May and flights of the same frequency to Washington starting in June.
