The head of the International Monetary Fund expressed confidence on Friday in the medium and long-term prospects for the Spanish economy now that the government had enacted austerity and reforms.

"I am really confident in the medium and long-term prospects for the Spanish economy, providing the efforts that have to be made will be made, and what I see today is that these efforts are underway," Dominique Strauss-Kahn told a joint news conference with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
