Hundreds protest in Spain over Gaza blockade
Several hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators took to the streets of Madrid Saturday to condemn Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
At the head of the march were nine fake coffins symbolising the victims of the Israeli assault on a Gaza aid flotilla on May 31 that killed nine Turkish activists.
The demonstrators called for an "intifada of flotillas" toward Gaza and a "boycott" of Israel.
The protest coincided with a visit to Madrid on Saturday by Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, who met with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
After the talks, Zapatero, whose country holds the European Union's rotating presidency, called for a "strong, joint EU position" on Gaza and Israel's blockade.
