CACERES — Three hundred people have been evacuated from their homes in the far west of Spain after a serious forest fire swept through the region of Caceres.
Authorities in Extremadura believe the fire was started on purpose.
The villagers from Navalvillar de Ibor have been evacuated.
The blaze started late on Thursday night.
Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra, president of the regional government in Extremadura, called on the central government for extra resources to help fight the blaze.
The authorities declared a grade two emergency and have called a crisis cabinet.
The latest blaze comes six days alter 11 volunteer firefighters were killed in Castilla La Mancha in a fire caused by a barbeque which was not properly extinguished
One person has appeared in court after admitting he failed to follow advice and started the barbeque.
