MADRID - The Spanish Attorney General said an investigation will examine a dozen cases involving the allegedly 'dubious' sedation of patients at a major Madrid hospital.

Cándido Conde Pumpido launched the investigation into the case of alleged irregularities at the Hospital Severo Ochoa de Leganes.

The scandal at the hospital started after a senior doctor who works in the emergency services was accused of making mistakes in 25 cases.

Conde-Pumpido said the point of the investigation was to dispel any doubts over the cases.

The doctor at the centre of the case, Luis Montes, has been suspended, provoking protests from his colleagues, who claim he has been the victim of a witch-hunt.
