MADRID — A Spanish high court judge has asked for permission to re-start proceedings against former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Berlusconi, who has lost prime ministerial immunity after losing a general election earlier this year, faced corruption charges dating back from 1991-93.

High court judge Fernando Grande-Marlaska made a written request to the constitutional court to reopen the case linked to the Telecinco television channel.

A trial of eight executives and business partners from the channel is due to start on Monday.

The face prison sentences of up to 14 years if convicted for alleged tax and document fraud.
