14 February 2005, MADRID-Gale warnings were issued in many parts of Spain as forecasters predicted winds of up to 100km-per-hour.

MADRID-Gale warnings were issued in many parts of Spain as forecasters predicted winds of up to 100km-per-hour.

Heavy snows were also expected in some mountain regions, according to the Spanish Meteorological Institute.

The high winds were expected in Huesca,Teruel and Zaragoza, in Aragón, in eastern Spain; also in Asturias, Burgos in Castilla y Leon and Catabria in the north and Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.

Gales were also predicted in Girona, Lleida and Tarragona, in Catalonia in north-east Spain; Castellón, in Valencia; in the four Balearic Islands;  and in the Basque Country.

A blanket of snow which could cause problems on the roads in mountain areas was expected in Burgos, Leon, Palencia and Soria, all in Castilla y Leon; Huesca, in Aragón; Asturias and Cantabria; Lleida in Catalonia; Navarre and in the Basque Country.
