ELCHE – An investigation was underway on Tuesday after an 11-year-old boy died in a social services centre.
The boy’s body was found by another boy on Monday night after he returned from college in Elche, near Alicante.
He had been living for two years at the centre after being taken into care by the local authorities.
Authorities said the boy did not have any known problems and was considered ‘normal’.
Psychological reports said he had adapted well to living away from his parents.
This summer he was going to go to live with his grandmother.
Investigators said they were sure he had not committed suicide.
Alicia de Miguel, head of social services, said the boy had been doing well at school.
He returned from school without any problems but shortly afterwards was found dead.
Police are keeping an open mind until the autopsy is carried out.
