MADRID-A car driver was shot repeatedly as he stopped his Porsche in traffic in central Madrid in broad daylight.
The gunman was ran off and hid in a flat which was surrounded by police in the central Chamartin area of the capital.
The shooting happened at 2.15pm on Tuesday near a petrol station.
Police sources said the driver, who is aged 37 but has not been named, stopped in traffic near the station.
At this point he was shot a number of times in the back in the shoulder blades with a pistol.
The victim was thought to be in a serious condition and was rushed to hospital.
The gunman ran off on foot and hid in an apartment nearby.
Police have cordoned off the flat and surrounded it with armed officers.
The cause of the shooting is still unclear.
