MADRID — Gale force winds and high seas have left Menorca cut off from the outside world.
Winds of up to 74kmh and four-metre-high waves have meant it is too dangerous to fly or sail to the holiday island.
Forecasters say conditions should remain the same at least until Wednesday night.
The bad weather is concentrated in Menorca but has also affected parts of nearby Mallorca, where winds of 76kmh were recorded in Faro de Capdepera, in the north of the island.
The port of Mahon on Menorca was closed from 6am on Tuesday because of high winds and strong seas.
Ferries from the island have been cancelled.
The catamarán, 'Millenium II', which was to have sailed from Mallorca to Barcelona has cancelled its voyage.
The swimmer, David Meca, who was going to attempt to swim from Jávea in Alicante to Ibiza has postponed it until Wednesday.
