The French and Spanish foreign ministers arrived in Jordan on Monday for talks with King Abdullah II on the faltering Palestinian-Israeli peace process.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and his Spanish counterpart Miguel Angel Moratinos were flown by a Jordanian helicopter from the Palestinian territories to the king's palace in Amman, an official told AFP.

Following their talks with the king, Kouchner and Moratinos are to meet with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas also in the Jordanian capital, and later hold a news conference.

Before travelling to Amman, the two foreign ministers held a breakfast meeting in Jerusalem with Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad.

They met on Sunday with Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, at the start of a two-day tour aimed at breaking the deadlock in peace talks and boosting Europe's role.
