MADRID — A serial child rapist who carried out a string of attacks on boys and girls as young six was arrested.
Police said the man, named only as Raul P.L, was wanted for eight rapes, six sexual assaults, seven burglaries and a number of armed threats on children in the capital.
The 31-year-old has been hunted for four years after police realised they were looking for a serial child abuser.
Special patrols were mounted around schools and playgrounds in Madrid.
But police have been hampered by the lack of any DNA evidence and the young age of the victims from making a breakthrough until now.
The suspect was arrested after police narrowed their search to one individual who had a previous criminal record.
The man would snare his victims by gaining their confidence and then making threats if they tried to get away.
Eleven children recognised the man who was arrested as the same individual who had attacked them.
