11 May 2005, MADRID — Four workers were asphyxiated by gas at a shipyard in the north-western port of El Ferrol as they worked on the construction of a Norwegian frigate.

MADRID — Four workers were asphyxiated by gas at a shipyard in the north-western port of El Ferrol as they worked on the construction of a Norwegian frigate.

The men died from inhaling the gas while soldering in a confined space.

The accident occurred at 7:15 am on board the Roald Amudsen, which was due for delivery on 25 May.

Initially, Spanish radio reported that the four had died from a gas explosion at the shipyard.
