MADRID - A still life by Picasso painted in 1914 will be auctioned Monday for the first time on the Internet, announced the head of La Sala Retiro auctioneers.
The work, Still Life, priced at EUR 125,000, is painted on fine paper with pencil details.
The piece is to be sold with a certificate of authenticity from one of the daughters of the painter, Maya Widmaier Picasso.
It forms part of a lot of 230 articles.
The work is to be auctioned from Monday, through Ebay Spain, until 4 March.
The piece is to be sold exclusively online along with an oil painting by Domingo Muñoz Cuesta and a painting by José María Sicilia, priced at EUR 54,000 and EUR 29,000 respectively. Other jewellery and objects from the same collection will also be up for sale.
José Pedro Bailén, head of La Sala Retiro in Madrid, said internet auctions could extend to other "major paintings".
"This system allows the client to take the item from their home and the weigh up the offers," said Bailen.
If the auction went well, Bailen said, they might hold similar auctions every two months including only collectors' items and works of a major calibre.
