MADRID – Three British footballers arrested after they allegedly sexually abused three women may still face charges, it emerged Wednesday.
The accusations of serious sexual misconduct against three former Leicester City footballers are unlikely to be resolved until the autumn.
A Spanish judge dropped the charges against Paul Dickov, Keith Gillespie and Frank Sinclair in May.
But an appeal by a lawyer for the three women who made the allegations could send the case to a higher court.
The appeal will not be heard until after the Spanish summer recess, which starts next month.
Encarnacion Gomez, the women's lawyer, argued that a full trial should be held, despite the results of forensic tests all proving negative.
The three African women, who all live in Germany, made their allegations after meeting a group of Leicester players in the bar of a luxury hotel in La Manga, near Cartagena, in south-east Spain.
The players were in Spain on a mid-season break at the end of February.
