SEVILLE - The Spanish sports minister called on Thursday for an urgent meeting of the country's football federation after a manager was knocked unconscious by a bottle thrown from the stand.

Juande Ramos was taken to hospital after the incident at the derby game between Seville and Betis on Wednesday night.

The game was stopped.

It was not known if any arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

Ramos, who is the manager of Seville, is being treated in hospital for the injury.

Sports minister Jaime Lissavetzky called for an urgent meeting of the sport's disciplinary federation.

It appeared likely the Betis team may be handed down a tough fine to show violence of this kind would not be tolerated.
