MADRID — Gastronomic gurus from around the world were gathering at Madrid Fusion, a 'food summit' to highlight creations of chefs from the United States.
For two days, master chefs will show off their culinary skills in an event organized by food critic Jose Carlos Capel.
Spaniards Jordi Herrera and Juan Antonio Zaldua will demonstrate the latest in grills and grilling to kick off the first day, which will feature among its main attractions two more Spaniards, Ferran Adria and Martin Berasategui.
There will also be a homage to the founders of the 'New American Cuisine' Alice Waters, Norman Van Aken, Paul Prudhomme and Mark Miller.
Also appearing at Madrid Fusion will be Americans Homaru Cantu, Harold McGee, Josh DeChellis, Wylie Dufresne, Charlie Trotter and Ken Oringer.
Attractions at the gastronomic extravaganza will include the 2nd Designer Sandwich Contest, a number of studies on "the revolution in restaurant wine cellars," wine fashions in various countries, and the so-called "art direction of the meal".
The art of the "brunch," the latest in fruits and vegetables and a Cocktail Contest will round out the program, together with a talk on vintage canned food, the secrets of coffee and the traditional truffle auction.
