BARCELONA — The artist Carles Fontsere, best known for his Spanish Civil War propaganda posters for the Republican side, died on Thursday. He was 90.

Fontsere died at the Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona, where he had been admitted three days before.

Fontsere worked during the Spanish Civil War to produce some of the most famous posters for anarchists and communists alike.

After General Franco's nationalists won the civil war, he went in exile in France in 1939.

He also lived in Mexico and New Cork where he worked with Salvador Dali.
