MADRID - Two people have died and a third is missing after heavy rains triggered flooding in southern and eastern Spain, authorities said on Monday.

A 44-year-old German man drowned in his flooded garage in the town of Almunecar on the southern coast, while in Sabiote, also in the south, two people were swept away by water while they were in an all-terrain vehicle.

One of their bodies was found Sunday while a search continued for the other person on Monday.

Heavy rains were also responsible for damage on the Balearic island of Majorca in the Mediterranean, causing the metro system in Palma, the island capital, to close after several stations flooded.
