BILBAO - A bus driver returned from his breakfast in a cafe early Friday to find that someone had driven off with his vehicle while he was enjoying his morning cup of coffee, authorities said.

A spokesperson for the Basque regional police said the alleged thief climbed into the bus while the driver was breakfasting in the town of Derio, started up the engine and hit the highway.

Police stopped the bus shortly afterwards in the nearby town of Loiu and arrested the 44-year-old man, identified only his initials P.M.C.

The spokesman said that over the past two weeks the suspect had been arrested for skipping out before paying for meals at restaurants in Bilbao and Vitoria, stealing a car, driving off with a full tank of gas without paying at a petrol station and acting aggressively towards officers.
