ALICANTE-Spanish police have arrested the father of a five-year-old girl who died in a fire.
The 50-year-old suffered smoke-inhalation during the blaze at the house in Alicante, south-east Spain where they lived.
The man was understood to be separated from the girl's mother.
He was also said to have had some history of domestic violence towards his former partner.
The girl died in the fire which started at 8.41am in an area of the city called Garbinet.
Fire rapidly swept through the building trapping the child and her father who were said to be sleeping at the time the fire started.
The girl died in the blaze but her father was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital.
The couple, who had had three children, had only been separated for 15 days when the tragedy happened.
They met again on Sunday in the house where the blaze happened.
The mother was living in another apartment with two of the children at the time her daughter was killed.
