MERIDA - Two members of a family that has reportedly terrorised inhabitants of the Badajoz town of Mirandilla for 10 years have been sent to jail, after their reaction on Sunday when nearly 150 people apparently tried to lynch them.

The father and one of the sons of the Molina family were remanded in custody Thursday on the charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

The two stand accused of firing a rifle into a crowd of people from the town on Sunday, injuring three. The Civil Guard had to step in to stop neighbours from burning down the Molina family's house.

The mother and daughter of the family have been forbidden by a court order from returning to the town until the case has been settled.
