BARCELONA - Attendees of the European Reproductive Medicine Congress, which began Monday in Barcelona, are demanding the legalisation of a fertility method whereby a woman cedes her womb for the gestation of an embryo fertilised in vitro by another couple.

The practice, which is currently illegal in Spain but regulated in countries such as Britain and the United States, allows women who have undergone a hysterectomy but whose ovaries still produce eggs to have children.
