BARCELONA – An emergency plan had to be activated in the province of Barcelona on Thursday after a lorry carrying 16,000 litres of petrol overturned.

The lorry was on the T-344 in Horta de Sant Joan at 10.44am when the accident happened and some of the fuel spilled onto the road.

The Emergency Plan for the Transport of Dangerous Goods (Transcat) was put into action, with both sides of the road closed and six fire engines scrambled to the scene for a clean-up operation.

The lorry driver was slightly injured in the accident. No other vehicles were involved.
