MADRID - Spain's governing Socialist Party and the main opposition Popular Party on Tuesday finalised the details of the two televised debates between their respective leaders ahead of the 9 March general election, deciding every aspect of the discussions from who is to speak first down to the shape of the table.

The first debate will start to be broadcast at 9.07pm on 25 February from the IFEMA trade fair centre in Madrid, while the second will begin at the same time on 3 March at the capital's leading convention centre.

In the first debate, to be held around a triangular table, PP leader Mariano Rajoy will begin speaking on each subject, while Socialist Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero will have the final word. In the second debate, the roles will be reversed.
