ETA suspects questioned over shooting of police officer
Basque police on Tuesday said they had arrested two suspected members of the armed Basque separatist group ETA in connection with the killing of a police office in 2003.
Gurutz Agirresarobe Pagola and Aitziber Ezkerra Segurajauregi were taken in for questioning overnight from Monday to Tuesday, a statement said.
The pair had been "involved" in the killing of Joseba Pagazaurtundua, 45, February 8, 2003, the statement alleged. The married father-of-two was shot four times and died several hours later in hospital.
ETA, which is listed as a terrorist group by the European Union and the United States, has been held responsible for the death of 829 people in its over 40-year-old campaign of gun and bomb attacks on mainly Spanish targets.
The group has not staged an attack on Spanish soil since August 2009.
It formally called off a 2006 ceasefire in June 2007 citing a lack of progress in its tentative peace talks with the government of Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero.
