SHEFFIELD – Three suspected ETA terrorists were arrested in Sheffield, northern England, in an operation against the Basque separatist organisation.

Iñigo Albizu Hernandez, Zigor Ruiz Jaso and Ana Lopez Monge were named as the suspects held in Sheffield.

Albizu is thought to have gone to Britain by ferry from Santander after being on the run from the police.

Albizu, 23, has previous convictions for street violence connected with support for Basque separatism.

The arrests on Friday were part of the continued operation against an ETA cell which has led to the seizure of 140kg of explosives, used to carry out 30 attacks between 2004 and 2005.

Police said there may be more arrests later.

The operation was carried out by British and Spanish anti-terrorism officers.
