MADRID — Spain's Supreme Court has confirmed a jail sentence of 790 years Friday imposed on two ETA terrorists who bombed a supermarket in Barcelona.

Santiago Arróspide 'Santi Potros' and Rafael Caride Simón were jailed in 2003 for carrying out the attack on the Hipercor supermarket in 1987 in which 21 people were killed and 46 injured.

It was the worst ETA attack in the terrorist group's 36-year history.

Arróspide and Caride Simón appealed against the 790 year sentences imposed by Spain's top court, the Audencia Nacional in 2003.

The Supreme Court ruled that there was sufficient evidence to condemn both men.

The pair also have to pay EUR 150,253 compensation to the families of each person who was killed and between EUR 300 and EUR 70,000 to each person who was injured.

It is thought to the most severe sentence ever imposed on any ETA terrorist.
