LEON -Five people thought to have links to the Basque terrorist group ETA were arrested Wednesday, police said.
Four men and one woman were arrested in Arrigorriaga, Berango, Sopelana and in La Bañeza, which are all in the Basque Country.
The suspects who were arrested were named as Amaia Ibarra, Josu Alvarez, Javier Ganuza, Oskar Elezeaga and Ángel Aranguren.
They are said to be part of the terrorist group's support network.
Their role is helping to smuggle terrorists across the border between Spain and France, police sources said.
Four were arrested in flats or houses, while a fifth suspect was detained while staying in a hotel.
The operation was ordered by Spain's highest court, the Audencia Nacional, after documentation was seized during the arrest of prominent ETA terrorist Ibon Fernández de Iradi, who is nicknamed 'Susper', earlier this year.
Police sources said the arrests have dismantled an important support cell for the terrorist organisation, which earlier this week vowed to continue its campaign of violence.
ETA has killed more than 800 people during a bloody campaign over more than 30 years.
