BILBAO — A bomb exploded in the Basque country, causing no injuries, and a second bomb was defused.
Police suspect armed Basque separatist group ETA of planting the bombs, a police spokesman said.
One bomb, placed in a waste paper basket near an employment office in the Basque seaside town of Zarautz, exploded at about 1.30am.
Another bomb, near a court in Zarautz, had been defused by the police bomb squad about two hours earlier.
ETA recently launched three bomb attacks on the same day against court buildings in the Basque Country.
The attacks came hours after the group, which has killed 830 people since it started in 1968, said it was open to dialogue with the government over peace proposals.
