BARCELONA — Police have arrested a crane driver who kidnapped and tried to strangle a woman who had crashed into his vehicle.
The 28-year-old, who has only been named as Adolfo J.H., subjected the woman to the terrifying ordeal for eight hours.
The incident happened in Villafranca del Penedes, near Barcelona, when a 23-year-old woman crashed her car into a crane driven by the alleged kidnapper. The collision caused minor damage.
After initially appearing friendly, he told her she had to accompany him to a scrap yard where he had left his insurance documents.
Once there, he got out a pistol and gagged and bound her.
After six hours, he then took her, still bound and gagged, to a petrol station where he calmly bought cigarettes while she remained in the back of his car.
He then took her back and started to strangle her until she lost consciousness.
But she recovered just as he was leaving.
The man noticed she had recovered and fired a shot at her which missed.
According to the victim, he then gave her the gun and asked her to shoot him.
Instead, she told him to take her to hospital where he left her. She was suffering from injuries to her throat and shock.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in court accused of kidnapping and attempted murder.
