MADRID — Retouched photos of General Francisco Franco meeting Adolf Hitler have emerged showing doctoring photos is not a modern phenomenon.
The Spanish news agency EFE revealed how original photos of the Spanish dictator at a meeting with Adolf Hitler in 1940 on the French-Spanish border were changed.
In the original images, Franco had his eyes shut.
But to present El Caudillo in a better light, they were changed to 'open' his eyes and slightly change his right arm.
Another picture showing Hitler and Franco on a railway platform was totally fabricated.
The original picture was just a shot of the empty platform and the images of the dictators was later placed 'on top'.
Though the two men did meet, for some reason, their image was created later.
The fakes have emerged after EFE digitalised all its 13 million images.
The archive has shown other historical images which have never been made public until today.
