Denmark, Spain, Holland 'recognise' Libya rebels
Libyan rebels said Thursday that Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain have become the latest states to recognise their new national council set up to rival the regime of Moamer Kadhafi.
"(Council vice-chairman) Abdel Hafiz Ghoga is extremely pleased that these three countries have recognised the National Transitional Council (NTC)," said spokesman Jalal al-Gallal.
There was no immediate confirmation from the countries.
France, Italy, Qatar and Ghana have already recognised the NTC, based in the eastern rebel bastion of Benghazi, as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people.
A popular uprising against Kadhafi began in mid-February and has the left the country split between the largely Kadhafi-controlled west and the rebel east.
