MADRID — Spanish public broadcaster TVE has refused to show the Oscars next year because of a series of problems during the 2005 Academy Awards ceremony.

Sound problems and the constant movement of guests which could be heard by viewers meant the show turned into a shambles, TVE executives said in a statement.

TVE said it did not want to repeat of the same problems and as the Academy would not grant the Spanish broadcasters any more control over the transmission of the ceremony, it would not show them next year.

It said unless there was a subtstantial change in the organisation of the ceremony, TVE would not change its mind.

At the ceremony last month, actor Jamie Foxx won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the film 'Ray' and actress Hilary Swank was also given an Oscar for her role in 'Million Dollar Baby'.
